The owners of Hollandia Produce have been practicing greenhouse farming for about three generations. Today, the company still proudly practices greenhouse and sustainable methods.
In addition, all waste is recycled. This includes plastic, cardboard, wood, and overall green waste. In comparison to field growing, Live Gourmet uses 75% less water with the help of hydroponic methods.
In this YouTube video, Peter Overgaag, the president of Hollandia products, talks about Live Gourmet’s greenhouse and hydroponic methods. He also discusses the company’s background and explains packaging methods so families can have the freshest greens possible.
We invite you to watch this video to learn more about the history of Live Gourmet as well as their great sustainable practices.

Its been around since 2009 and the comedic show can be seen Wednesdays on ABC at 9pm PST. Thank you for featuring us, Modern Family!

Over the past couple weeks we’ve given you the low-down on almost all of the delicious veggies that we grow here at Live Gourmet. Now it is time to discuss our Living Red Butter Lettuce. Despite what you might think, this stuff isn’t exactly the same as our regular lettuce. You can expect slightly different texture and flavor from this variety. Also it’s red (although you probably guessed that much yourself). If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying it yet, let this blog post be your excuse!
Now here’s Dani Spies to explain more about the finer points of our Living Red Butter Lettuce:
One of our lettuce varieties which we haven’t talked much about on the blog is actually 3 varieties, not just one. If you didn’t already know, in addition to our regular and our red butter lettuce, we also grow three other types of lettuce. These three varieties, Lollo Rossa, Lollo Bionda, and Red Oak Leaf, are all grown together in our greenhouses and we sell them together in one package. It’s a great fresher alternative to a bagged salad mix and it’s bursting with flavor and nutrition. To learn more check out this video featuring Dani Spies and our 3 In 1 Living Lettuce.

Chef Giada De Laurentiis is one of the most recognizable personalities on the Food Network, and also appears regularly on The Today Show. All but one of her 5 cookbooks have found their way to the New York Times best seller list, and she has starred in/created a number of very successful cooking shows.
With such fantastic qualifications we were thrilled to learn that Giada uses our Living Butter Lettuce! In a recent Today Show clip we spotted her grabbing a box of our delicious lettuce at Whole Foods while doing her daily shopping. You can check out the entire video by clicking here, or just check out the screen cap below:
What did Giada cook up with that head of our Living Butter Lettuce? Sadly, we can’t tell you that. What we can tell you, however, is that her website has a great recipe for a Butter Lettuce Salad with Parmesan Butter Crostini. To check out the recipe, click here: http://bit.ly/H8DPk0.
If you’ve been following this blog, then you probably already know about how we’ve gone green with our packaging. Now we’ve got something new for our friend the earth to be happy about because what hauls our green packaging around is now green too. Our state of the art trucks are designed to be aerodynamic in order to reduce fuel consumption, and the fuel that is used is not gas, but cleaner burning natural gas.
We’ve also upgraded our trailers as well. The refrigeration units that keep our greens fresh are hybrid-electric, so they also release less CO2 into our atmosphere.
All of this has helped us get the EPA’s official stamp of approval for our trucks. For a sligtly more in-depth look at all of this new tech, check out the video below from AndNowUKnow.com:
