If you didn’t know, butter lettuce is highly nutritious. It is packed with vitamins like vitamin A, iron, and calcium. It also does not contain any cholesterol, sodium, or fat, making it a healthy green for you and your family.
Fruits and Veggies More Matters suggests to avoid butter lettuce heads that have wilted leaves. They also suggest to store washed and dried lettuce in a plastic bag inside the refrigerator for up to five days.
Our Living Butter Lettuce arrives alive, so we suggest you keep it in its original container we like to call a “mini greenhouse”. We call it a mini-greenhouse because it has a perfect micro-climate inside to help keep your leafy greens as fresh as they can be.

School is back in session and this means its time for Moms (or Dads!) to start getting back into the routine of making school lunches for their kids. Prepared school lunches can be so bland and boring. The same ham and cheese sandwiches can become tiring, you know? Thankfully, Marina Delio from Yummy Mummy Kitchen is here to help. In a recent blog post, she provides delicious kid-friendly recipes to make for school. One of our favorite lunchbox ideas was her Egg Salad Lettuce Wraps. The idea looks great and easy to make! We do suggest you use our Living Butter Lettuce (instead of romaine) for a fresh crisp your kids will enjoy.
Today’s recipe is from one of our local Santa Barbara favorite bloggers, Marina Delio! Marina owns a popular food blog and is the author of the book, The Yummy Mummy Kitchen. We love her dishes and photography so much, we thought you’d lettuce share them with you!
This vegetarian recipe is delicious and goes well as the main entree. The original recipe calls for romaine, but we suggest you use butter lettuce instead. Don’t forget the tortillas chips and feel free to add your favorite hot sauce on top. We’re getting hungry just thinking about this! Check out the complete list of ingredients below:
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 small yellow onion, chopped
2 ears corn, kernels cut off
8 oz. tempeh, cubed (found next to the refrigerated soy products)
1 (15 oz.) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 tablespoon taco seasoning (this is the amount of heat my family can handle, add more to your taste)
What’s the best lettuce for turkey lettuce wraps!? Live Gourmet living butter lettuce of course! Today’s recipe is based on a popular Chinese recipe! It consists of five–spice powder, which includes star anise, cloves, Chinese cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, and fennel seeds. The recipe also calls for fresh herbs and chestnuts for added taste and texture. And what makes these wraps even more great is that they only take 30 minutes to make. These Chinese turkey wraps make 4 servings and here’s what you’ll need to make them:
• 1/2 cup(s) water
• 1/2 cup(s) instant brown rice
• 2 teaspoon(s) sesame oil
• 1 pound(s) 93%-lean ground turkey
• 1 tablespoon(s) minced fresh ginger
• 1 large red bell pepper, finely diced• 1 cup(s) water chestnuts, rinsed and chopped
• 1/2 cup(s) reduced-sodium chicken broth

Today’s recipe is a Live Gourmet original. The Spicy Black Bean Lettuce-Wrapped Burger is perfect for grilling outside on a bright summer day and is very spicy. Instead of the regular burger buns, we will be using Living Butter Lettuce. Start the grill and lettuce spice up your mouth!
1. Follow the instructions for the MorningStar Farms Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burger provided on the box.
2. While the burgers are cooking, roast the Anaheim Pepper directly on the flame of your gas stove OR roast them on a grill outside. Roast the pepper until it is blackened in all sides.
3. Peel the charred skin from the Anaheim Pepper. If you want your burger to be spicy, don’t seed it and cut it horizontally, in small rings. If you don’t want your burger to be too spicy, then cut the pepper vertically, seed the pepper, then cut it into small strips.
Setting up your Spicy Black Bean Lettuce-Wrapped Burger
4. Place two leaves of Butter Lettuce on your plate. Then place the burger, following the mayonnaise, mustard, tomato, and avocado. After, add the Anaheim Peppers and top it off with two more leaves of Living Butter Lettuce.

Today’s vibrant salad, from SheKnows.com, gives a unique taste to some classic ingredients. 3 in 1 Lettuce, carrots, and zucchini are covered with what would otherwise be your every-day olive oil and lemon dressing. What sets this salad appart is a dash of vanilla extract. The vanilla serves to shake up the flavor profile of this now extraordinary salad, making it something very much worth sampling for yourself. Despite it’s unique flavor, the salad remains resolutely ordinary in its preparation time. It clocks in at just under 10 minutes to make and won’t require any backbreaking labor.
Red Butter Lettuce tastes just as good as green butter lettuce and adds flair to any salad. Today’s recipe gave us the option of using green or red butter lettuce, so of course, we went with red.
